The Central Galactic Union is a fictional government of the story The Zaaroft War, and its sequels. It draws heavily from Nazi Germany's government organization and semi-Socialist economic policy. The Union is a central part of the story, and gives its name to the fictional universe it comes from: The CGU-verse.

Foundation

The Union was formed in 6270, by the Emperor of Sol, Maximilian von Compton-Wittelsbach. Though it initially consisted of merely half of the Milky Way Galaxy, within five years, the C.G.U conquered the other half, and solidifed its hold over the galaxy.
The C.G.U organized its government around a central authority, the Dictator-Autocrat of the Union, Maximilian, who also claimed the title Führer of Mankind (another parallel to Nazi Germany). Under the dictator is the cabinet, consisting of authorities such as the Deputy-Führer, the Chancellor of Terra, the Reichsführer-SG, and others). Then, beneath that are the Reich Ministers, who sub-govern areas of Resource Management, Labor, Propaganda, and Foreign Relations, amont others.
The Union had arisen from a period of great strife within the Milky Way, for a thousand years of civil war had plagued the Galactic Confederacy. By this time in human history, mankind had, mostly, resolved its religious and racial differences, and concentrated on the issue of alien-human relations and alien rights within human space.
When the C.G.U was founded, the central government opted for a more radical stance on the issue, making it essentially illegal to be an alien. With powerful oratory and rhetoric, the government pulled up the masses to conquer the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy and unite humanity.
Thus, the Union arose from the ashes of disunity, and forged in the fire of ultranationalism.

Early History

After it united the Galaxy in 6275, the government went about setting up a rigid social system. At the top of the social ladder was the military and central government, followed by men who held noble titles and lesser positions of government, and at the bottom were the masses, the peasantry. The peasants had a unique predicament, because of the economic system in the C.G.U, or lack thereof.
As soon as Union had total control of the galaxy's resources, a money economy instantly obsolete. It had no need nor use for it, because they controlled every scrap of metal, and every grain of food. Everything became free to obtain, though rationed, to both put the people at ease and to build up the military. A money economy would have bankrupted and shattered the Union, but with free reign of the resources, they constructed massive fleets of starships and formed massive volunteer armies of troops.
Therefore, the peasants had free education, free food, free water, free electicity and other utilites, and (perhaps most importantly to the Government), free communication. The free communication allowed the Union's government to broadcast fiery anti-alien speeches from the capitol at München, Terra. It was after they conquered the entire Milky Way and solidified its hold over mankind, that it began a violent program of state-sanctioned, and publicly-supported genocide of non-human species.
The Government established several branches of the civil service, including the State Police and the SS of the C.G.U, the infamous StormGuard.

The Zaaroft

Up until 6288, the Union used bulky, but sturdy, Nova-class Space Battleship, which used railguns and missiles. Thier infantry were lightly armoured and used outdated 7.62mm Automatic Rifles, and somewhat heavy laser carbines. In 6288, that changed irrevocably. The GSS Schwarzkopf discovered a massive, six-kilometer, beetlelike alien vessel, in the outer rim of the Milky Way, and attempted communications. The precise course of actions were unclear, but the two vessels exchanged fire, and the Schwarzkopf was nearly destroyed, and it managed to barely limp away and perform a hyperspeed jump to Terra. The Central Galactic Union organized a levee-en-masse, and pulled up over a trillion men and women to fight this new alien threat.
The first decade of the war went miserably, with massive losses on the C.G.U's side, and hundreds of ships being lost to Zaaroft warfleets and armadas. However, by 6300, the tide begins the turn, and within five years, the C.G.U penetrates deep into Zaaroft territory. Along the way, they begin to slaughter Zaaroft civilians and obliterate entire planets. In 6306, the great C.G.U war hero, Grand Adrimal Robert Harper, is killed in combat by the Zaaroft Warlord, Hrj'ik Psylias. Heavy and close fighting continues for six more years, until the C.G.U unleashes its secret weapons: the GSS Maximilian and its sister ship, the GSSEta Rycon. These gigantic ships provide the power the C.G.U required to finally push the Zaaroft to thier home planet, which was subsequently destroyed in a massive cataclysmic battle.
After the war, several Zaaroft escaped as refugees to beyond the unexplored reaches of Union territory. The StormGuard rounded up the remaining Zaaroft and began thier genocidal mission.
