Chabbakuk (also know as Chabuk) is the
portmanteau term
which combines
Chabad,
Breslov,
Carlebach and
Kook to describe the
hybrid philosophy and
prayer style of a
small yet growing group of predominantly
Orthodox
Jews.
While Chabbakuk is not a seperate "sect" of
Hasidic
Judaism, its followers are made up predominantly of
young people, many from
Modern Orthodox groups, although
some come from Breslov and and Chabad traditions as well.
This
group is, however, not accepted in mainstream Judaism or by
Mainstream Chasidim, first of all, due to its Zionist inpact from
Kook, and lack of recognised leadership.
Influences
Chabbakuk draws on the spirituality of the
Breslov Hasidim, utilizing many of the philosophies of
Nachman of Breslov to explain the fervent
and emotional prayer services which are typical of the group. The
prayer services themselves rely almost entirely on the teachings
and musical inspiration of Rabbi Shlomo
Carlebach.
