Chang Feng (Group) Co Ltd (Chinese: 长丰; Pinyin: Cháng Fēng) is a Chinese SUV manufacturer.[1] A state-owned enterprise with a publicly-traded subsidiary, Hunan Changfeng Motors Co Ltd (SSE: 600991),[1] Changfeng only produces SUVs and most sales are to the Chinese state. It manufactures license built Mitsubishi Pajeros, sold in China under the Mitsubishi brand,[2] and Pajero variations that sell under the brand name Liebao,[3] which means leopard.

Changfeng exports to the Middle East and Africa.[4]

History

Changfeng has its origins in No. 7319 Factory,[1] which was a small repair facility for military equipment before becoming a factory in the 1970s.[5] It manufactured military trucks for the People's Liberation Army.

Changfeng continues to manufacture products primarily for Chinese state use. As of 2008 most sales, close to seventy percent,[6] were to police, military and other government agencies.[7]

Mitsubishi

Changfeng has produced license-built Mitsubishi vehicles for both military and civilian use[8] and the Japanese automaker, as of 2009, holds a 16 percent stake in Hunan Changfeng Motors Co Ltd.[4]

Production bases

Changfeng has production bases in the Hunan province cities of Changsha, Yongzhou and Hengyang, and in Huizhou, Guangdong province.[1]

Electric vehicles

Changfeng is planning produce China’s first hybrid electric SUV. The hybrid SUV is set to be the Changfeng CS7, and is expected to be launched in early 2010.[9]
