The Charger Pride Committee, also referred to as CPC, is a committee of St. Joseph High School Students, Alumni, and faculty that promote school spirit and pride in ones self.

The beginnings
The CPC began as a lunchtime club in October of 2005, with people meeting in the Charger Library to just take a break from their exhausting and long days. Times were tough St. Joe's. The school had just gone co-ed, and many true Chargers were reluctant to accept their fellow Chargettes in their activities. This was taking a toll on the overall sprit and look of the school.Teachers were beginning to loose their pride, and the students were drifting further and further apart. The administration had tried to restore spirit, but they failed. Knowing there was almost nothing left to do, this group of chargers banded together to begin the CPC revolution. Moderated by Student Life Director Paul Hurt (class of 1997), Edd McMurray (class of 2006), Jose Gomez (class of 2007), and Anthony Gowgiel (class of 2006, began to meet and promote school spirit, charger pride, and help promote leadership in their school.
The Early Days

With the primary task of the CPC of trying to rebuild school spirit, they went right to work. Flyers, e-mails, and announcements were made to promote upcoming events and inform the students of athletic, musical, and extra-curricular events in the next few weeks. This proved to be an instant success. Attendance to extra-curricular events, and participation in Pep-Rallys surged. Students were beginning to actually care about their school. With the blessing and full-cooperation of the Student Council, the CPC began to call the shots for Assemblies, spirit week, and after school events.
Assemblies

Assemblies were always an important part of St. Joseph High School. They brought the student body together to cheer on their fellow athletes. However, with the lack of Spirit, many students disliked the assemblies. With the CPC came swooping changed in the Assembly program with the most successful addition being the Faculty Cheerleaders. This took members of the faculty, selected at random, and had them perform cheers and routines in front of the student body. Faculty of ages and ability performed, making this a comic relief of the assembly. One specific routine, took the math teach Sr. Carole, and put her on the shoulders of Ms. Boyle the athletic trainer. They then ran around the gym, screaming and yelling. Another addition to the assembly was the Watermelon eating, hula-hoop, and random talent contests.
Spirit Week

Spirit Week was a touchy subject at St. Joe’s only because nobody ever knew what was going on. The CPC changed that. Everyday after morning announcements, the CPC sponsored Song of the Day, a contest in which students and faculty competed for valued prizes and monetary gifts. A song was played over the PA. The participants would then have to guess the Title of the Song, and the artist to win. Another event held during Spirit Week was the lunchtime festivities. These included pie-eating contest involving both students and faculty, and hula-hoop contests.

After School Activities

The CPC also sponsored after school movie nights. These nights involved playing a recently released movie, and providing refreshments. These movie nights were free, and were heavily attended.

Junior Prom

Perhaps the most successful of the CPC events was the Junior Prom. There had not been a Junior Prom at St. Joe’s in 23 years, and many Juniors were asking for one. The CPC, with the help of Venuti’s Banquets, put together the first Junior Prom, Wonderful Tonight.
