Charles Bruce, 4th Earl of Elgin and 3rd Earl of Ailesbury (1682–1747) was the son of Thomas Bruce, 2nd Earl of Ailesbury and Lady Elizabeth Seymour. His maternal grandparents were Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp (a son of the 2nd Duke of Somerset) and Mary Capell.

He married, firstly, Lady Anne Savile,[1] daughter of William Savile, 2nd Marquess of Halifax. They had three children:

He married, secondly, Lady Juliana Boyle, daughter of Charles Boyle, 2nd Earl of Burlington[1]. They had no children.

He married, thirdly, Lady Caroline Campbell, daughter of John Campbell, 4th Duke of Argyll, in 1739. They had one daughter:
