Charmaine Bucco, played by Kathrine Narducci, is a fictional character on the HBO TV series The Sopranos. She is the wife of Artie Bucco and a childhood friend of Carmela and Tony Soprano.

Biography

Charmaine is an old friend of Carmela Soprano's and married Tony Soprano's school friend Artie Bucco. She also dated Tony Soprano in high school, and several allusions to their high school sex life are spread throughout the series, especially one scene in the episode The Test Dream. Artie and Charmaine are also partnered in the restaurant business and opened their own restaurant, Vesuvio, with Charmaine as manager and Artie as head chef. References have been made to Charmaine's education - also in The Test Dream, Tony reveals that Charmaine is a licensed notary public. Also, in discussion with Charmaine in relation to a business venture with Tony in the Season Four episode Everybody Hurts, Artie suggests that the business idea would never pass Charmaine's "incredibly high Wharton School of Business standards". Artie and Charmaine have three children together - a son and two daughters. One of their daughters played with Meadow on the high school soccer team.

In Season One of the Sopranos, 1999, Charmaine and Carmela have drifted apart. Charmaine resents Carmela's high standard of living through her husband's criminal lifestyle. She discourages Artie from associating with Tony because of his mafia connections and talks Artie out of accepting suspect gifts from Tony. Charmaine and Carmela's friendship reaches a crisis point when Carmela hires the Buccos to cater a silent auction at the Soprano home - Carmela treats Charmaine like a servant, prompting her to exact revenge by revealing that she slept with and dated Tony while he and Carmela were starting to date. Carmela was on a trip with her parents at the time.

Charmaine's character is often irritable and shrewish and she rarely masks her annoyance at her husband's close association with criminals in the Soprano family.

Following a series of arguments, Artie and Charmaine finally separated because of Artie's relationship with Tony Soprano and she left, telling him, "You're not getting the kids." Since the split, Charmaine considerably improved her personal appearance and continued work at the Nuovo Vesuvio.

She has since reconciled with her husband and they are living together again. During their restaurant's financial difficulties in 2006, Charmaine remained level headed and supportive of her husband.
