Personal Life and Overview
Chelsea Johnston (sometimes cited under different last names) Born in December of 1990 is a female
BMX racer from the
Twin Cities Area of
Minnesota.
Chelsea is known for holding hundreds of titles and records for her BMX racing and stunt routines and of course for her head of curly blonde hair that sets her apart from the rest of the BMX crowd.
Chelsea was introduced to BMX by her older sister and became a competitive racer at the young age of 4.
Chelsea raced for
ABA for 6 years and became the youngest Pro BMX Racer at the age of 10.
She was the top racer for both
Airwalk and
Vans BMX teams.
Chelsea was also the top female racer with the most points scored in ABA history.
In 2002 Chelsea was suspended from ABA for 2 years for a misunderstanding with another racer and she never returned.
After going pro full time Chelsea became the youngest Pro BMX Racer ever to be paid for her team wins.
Chelsea became the 2nd best racer in Professional BMX history and was the first female to obtain that position.
Around the age of 12 Chelsea was told that she was taller than the average
stunt rider (which is about 5' 2") and would probably not be able to compete in the future, but she proved everybody wrong when she won the title of The
Gravity Games Best Stunt Biker in January of 2006 standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall.
While being an extremely admired celebrity in the BMX world Chelsea went to extreme measures to keep herself out of the public eye by all means possible.
A modest person, Chelsea refused almost every offer to appear in print ads and televised interviews but still caught the attention of BMX riders around the world.
Chelsea Retires from Professional BMX
February 9th 2006 was the last time Chelsea raced professionally.
She suffered a career ending injury to her left knee and lower leg that required extensive surgeries.
Her
kneecap completely exploded and shattered into several pieces.
A steel bar that was in Chelsea's lower leg attached to the
tibial bone (from previous BMX injuries that required 4 surgeries) became detached from the bone it was surgically screwed onto shattering it and destroying almost all of the
tendons and
cartillage in her leg.On March 26th 2006 Chelsea retired from Professional BMX racing and walked away holding hundreads of different BMX world records and titles.

FoxInterview Controversies
Chelsea has denied time and time again to do televised interviews, print ads for her sponsors or even to be photograped during races.
Several issues have erupted due to Chelsea's wish to stay out of the public eye and to be just a "normal, everyday kid" to the point where in 2005 The
Dew Action Sports Tour was almost cancelled due to her demands.
The network airing the
Dew Action Sports Tour (DAST) wanted to be guranteed to have a live, televised interview with Chelsea saying that she "owed" them one, and when she denied to do an interview, the network terminated it's contract with the DAST and and issued a statement saying that they were not going to be airing the
Dew Action Sports Tour due to preposterous, absurd rider demands.
The network later aired the
Dew Action Sports Tour without an interview with Chelsea due to criticism recieved from around the world.
Chelsea issued a statement about the incident through
Vans stating "I don't do interviews, photoshoots, or television appearances for anybody.
I have chosen to not situate myself in notable public appearances for years and have absolutely no intention of doing so in the future.I have never signed any contracts stating that I will do any appearances or interviews of any sort.
Therefore I do not "owe" anybody anything.
My requests were in no way unreasonable whatsoever and I request that my privacy be respected so that I may continue to live my life out of the spotlight just as I always have."
Chelsea's courage to stand up for her privacy was greatly admired and significantly increased her BMX fan base.
Extreme modesty is very rare these days, but in Chelsea's case it made her one of the most noble and dignified sports figures that the United States has ever encountered.
