Born Chelsea Amber Nicole Nisbett, she is a singer, songwriter and
guitarist, with roots in both the Provinces of Nova Scotia and New
Brunswick, in Canada.
The now Halifax-based artist has a
multi-cultural background and wide spectrum of musical influences
that cause her to create a new sound infusing acoustic rock, jazz,
R&B and soul. All this coupled with her soul-touching lyrics
makes for nothing short of a truly captivating songwriter and
performer.
Jordan Warford (Editorial Manager of
www.guitartips.com.au) has commented: “If there were three words to
sum up this inspiring artist, they would have to be integrity,
class, and passion. Chelsea Nisbett is a new talent recently
merging into the music industry. She brings with her a refreshing
outlook on life and a tremendous aptitude for music that has been
refined over recent years.”
Chelsea’s new anticipated CD
entitled New Beginnings has just been released and is now available
online and in select stores. It is a seven track EP featuring six
songs she’d written herself. This release is a great step towards
her goal of having a music career and ministry and the enthusiasm
surrounding the project is certainly something to take notice
of!
Nisbett has been singing ever since she can remember. All
through elementary and junior high she sang in choirs at both
school and church, and was a member of the Young Musicians Program
at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Riverview, New
Brunswick, under noted organist and choir director, James Duffett.
In high school she gained experience singing at weddings,
funerals, various churches, concerts, school events, coffee houses
and competitions. In 2003, she performed on ATV’s annual Christmas
Daddies telethon and also won Sackville High School’s “Music Mania”
(Battle of the Bands), which she won a second time in 2004.
Her
first official studio recording, a song session occurred at the
Mark Lloyd studio in Moncton, New Brunswick, in 2002, with a song
called Don't Hide. It was later submitted as her entry to the
Panteen Pro V songwriting competition later that same year.
Among other winnings, she is also Cobequid Idol’s winner for
2004, the second competition held to raise money for the Cobequid
Multi-Service Centre. Some of her favourite performances include
ATV’s Breakfast Television in 2004, and Global Noon in 2006. She
has also opened for the Jeff Somers Band concert during Tidal
Impact 2006 where there were about 1500 youth in the crowd. The
radio stations have picked up on this brewing talent as she has
received airplay on Halifax’s Christian Radio Station CJLU 93.9FM
in 2005 and Truro Hope 98.5FM in 2006.
Chelsea credits most of
her musical experience to the church, where she began singing and
playing guitar. She is now one of the worship leaders at her church
and really enjoys what she does. She has even led worship with a
band at the Deeper ’05 youth conference in Saint John, NB in March
2005.
Chelsea truly believes that God has blessed her with a
wonderful "gift", she is so thankful that she, through her music
can bring joy to people's lives... and even change the world in the
process.
The future looks bright for this young, new talent.
Jeremy Webb of the Daily News recognizes this at one of her
live performances: “Chelsea Nisbett came next, with three songs
that proved the Dal student is going places. Nisbett mastered the
mike and won over the crowd.” Keep watch for Chelsea’s upcoming
musical endeavours as she hits the stage with her debut CD New
Beginnings in tow.
Chelsea Nisbett comes by her talent honestly.
She has worked hard, through countless rounds of both guitar and
vocal training to create a sound that is uniquely hers.
Her
paternal grandfather, Rev. Canon Thomas Nisbett, was a member of
the popular Bermudian acapella singing group, the Nisbett Brothers,
and her grandmother, Winifred Nisbett, has been a choir director
and vocal coach since the 1940's.
Her first commercial CD, "New
Beginnings" is due to be released in February 2007.
