Chess Griffin (born Charles Griffin) is an
American
lawyer from
Raleigh,
North Carolina and
father of two.
Linux
Griffin's main prescence on the
Internet is as host of the very successful
Linux Reality
podcast, a guide to
Linux for new users. He is
also the creator of a widely-used derivative of
bashpodder as well as numerous
slackpackages for
Slackware Linux and various helpful scripts
(most of which are readily available from
his website).
As a podcaster, and a
general Linux and
FOSS
advocate, he has appeared on many other Linux related internet
radio shows and podcasts. Most notably on
The
Linux Link Tech Show - episodes
155 (see 0:40) and

Trivia
He is also known as "Xi". This originates from his days
as a member of the alpha iota chapter of
Phi Kappa Sigma at
Vanderbilt University.
In the
Linux Reality community, he is
known as the 'Patron Saint of Linux N00bs' for his help in
spreading Linux adoption.
His trio of favorite distributions are
Arch, Slackware and Debian. Although, as a Linux advocate, he
insists that all distributions should be highly regarded. Griffin
positively promotes freedom of choice in the
FOSS world.
As explained on
Linux Reality, the
nickname 'Chess' was given to him by his parents when he was born
and has been in use ever since.
