The Chicago Academy for the Arts is a private high school located in the heart of the city of Chicago. It is the only such high school in the state of Illinois.

Distinguished alumni

Alumni include producer Adam Rifkin; actor John Cusack; actress Lara Flynn Boyle of NBC's The Practice and the critically acclaimed television series Twin Peaks; dancers Purdie Baumann of the Radio City Music Hall, Randy Herrera of the Houston Ballet, and Tom Gold and Craig Hall of the New York City Ballet; artist Michael Ferris; Sky News and Who's Jack journalist Leah Borromeo; Will Ortega of EWR Management; Genevieve Schatz of Company of Thieves; artist Ian McLaughlin; singer Justin Tranter from Semi Precious Weapons; and composer Alex Wurman.

Arts aspect of school

The school has six arts departments: Dance, Media Arts (Film & Writing), Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Academic classes start at 8:30 and go until 1:30, at which time arts classes begin. Arts continue until the end of the day at 4:30 p.m. If there are rehearsals, then they run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
