Chief Wana Dubie Born
After "overdosing" on CNN in the late 1980s while in ill health and sequestered to bed Joseph Bickell decided to take a stand against what he saw as government tyrenny and "walk the walk instead of talk the talk."
After this relevation he deceided to reinstate his Native American heritage writing in a letter he sent to family and the government:
"I Joseph Bickell, who have tried to follow within
the system, which was created by our fore-fathers,
which I thought was a system of the people, by the
people, and for the people, And I failed!
So I
tried again, and I failed!
I discovered that it was
a system of big corporations, by big corporations,
for big corporations.
So I have given up fighting as an American
citizen.
And, with the consent of my immediate
family, we have reinstated our Indian heritage.
And
I will be hence forth known as Chief Wana Dubie of
the Santimaw Indians."
War with the United States
In 1990, Dubie watched on television as then President George H.W.
Bush declared war on drugs saying "This scourge will stop."
Feeling threatened by his status as a free lance medical marijuana grower and user in response drafted his own Declaration of War against the United States on March 19, 1990:
"We the people of the Santimaw Tribe, led by Chief
Wana Dubie, do hereby declare a war with the Union
of the United States of America, Until such time
that the government does agree to sign a peace
treaty with the Santiamw Tribe.
We are not declaring a war of violence.
But one
of revolt for your system!
We want our ancestry
back!
And, we want the rights and benefits of the
other civilized American Indian tribes.
Give me liberty or give me death!"
