Chopsticks Anonymous is an
indie rock band that has been active since early
1999 in
Somerset, KY,
USA.
There is no exact date for the technical founding of the band.
Originally, the band included Josh Chandler, Elliot Cleberg, Ryan Gooch, and on occasion Ben Peppers and John Vetter.
Devotion from the group members has dwindled over the years and now only Josh Chandler and Elliot Cleberg make up this two man band.
Creative and inspiring lyrics are the main driving force to their songs and the principal reason that fans come back for more.
Chopsticks Anonymous have released a 12 albums, including 3 live cd's.
Members
General
All of the members grew up in the small town of Somerset, Kentucky where they attended
Southwestern High School.
Various bonds formed between the boys at different ages but by high school they had all become friends.
Josh Chandler
Josh Chandler is the founding member and lead singer of the band.
He writes most of the songs and inspires the group.
He is often called the 'Pretty Boy' of the group.
It is said that Josh always inspires them to work harder and write new songs.
Elliot Cleberg
Elliot Cleberg was the member that came up with a name for the band.
Elliot is the youngest looking member with his so called ‘baby face’, though he is only one year younger than the rest of the group.
He has helped write a good number of the songs and provides backup vocals.
Elliot played
trombone for some of the earlier songs, but now the group works mostly with a
keyboard and
synthesizer.
Ryan Gooch
Ryan Gooch is the strong, silent member of the group.
He has only sung for one track and is not highly involved in the writing of lyrics, but he does provide a strong base of support and partially acts as a manager for the group.
He is currently less active with the band but remains a close friend with all members.
John Vetter
John Vetter is the "tough guy" of the group, though more of a close friend than a band member.
He has sung on a few songs and is usually present when new albums are being written.
After high school, John joined the
United States Navy and always visited them when he was on leave.
Ben Peppers
Ben Peppers occasionally joins in on the vocals but does not help much with song writing.
Albums
Prone Album
Prone album was the first CD released and as far as the band is concerned, "the album that was the begging of all albums" (Elliot Cleberg).
The albums title was a reference to a high school teacher the members knew.
This album's most popular songs included: The Ghost of Day Old Bread, The Prone Rap, and Papyrus (the band's first hit).
Living La Vida Micheal
Next came the popular album Living La Vida Micheal, which supposedly has to do with a boy that all the members knew and were not too fond of.
This CD includes:
Living La Vida Micheal,
All that Sexy Bread, and
Fish Comb.
All That Sexy Bread was an instant classic and
Fish Comb is likely to remain popular with fans for a long time.
Trebuchets of the Apocalypse
The third album was entitled Trebuchets of the Apocalypse but none of the songs were immensely popular.
Live At Crawford Farm
A mildly popular
Woodstock-esque festival,
Crawford Farm is located near the scenic
Lake Cumberland.
Dedicated fans flocked to the event where the group played a variety of songs from their earlier CD's.
Discovering Dustortion
Chopsticks Anonymous next released Discovering Distortion.
This was another smashing success with the most popular song being Elliot's
Playing Fire Emblem.
Tour de Distortion
At this point, the band decided to go on tour throughout the surrounding states.
Dedicated fans followed the band all through their journey.
This was also the first time that the band sold T-Shirts which sold out quickly.
Live at Fort Tetherland
Another live album was soon released when the group played as a fund raiser at a
boy scout camp.
Bare Chested Ladies
This album included one of the group's favorite songs: The Moon.
This slow, lullaby type song won the fans over instantly.
Live at Elliot's House
Another live album when the band hosted a free concert for local fans at singer Elliot Cleberg's house.
Born With a Bowl Cut
This album's title was a jab at former member Ben Pepper's bowl cut hair style.
The reference was not so much out of spite but merely a friendly joke, though Ben did not take it as such and there has been some tension between him and the other members.
Despite the anxiety behind the scenes, this album was instanly popular.
The songs include:
Twinkie Stealer,
I've Got Nothing At All (the only song member Ryan Gooch ever sang) and a cover of
Green Day's
Basket Case.
Picnic at the Par Five
This album was not nearly as successful as their previous work and after its release the band took a long break from writing music.
Endanger Means There's Still Time
Chopsticks Anonymous's most recent release was Endanger Means There's Still Time.
This album came out early in August of 2008 and brought the band back with furious intensity.
Fans flocked to download this album when it somehow leaked early.
The CD was a smash hit with a variety of humorous and soulful melodies.
The songs include:
The History of Chopstix AnonymousTxenty Dollar Billz (N.B.: actual spelling)At The Circus, Harvest Moon ShineI Need You (Don't Leave Me)Jingle Jangle Bo JangleSnakes R & USong About HatsTime Travel, Tribute To RyanMake The Bed Shakeas well as covers of
