Appearance
The one main thing they frequently have in common is
their upright ears, although some are known (rather bizzarely) to
have very floppy ears, but of the same shape as a Chihuahua's when
held up.
They are generally larger than Chihuahuas, yet smaller
than Yorkshire Terriers. They have the size of a mini Yorkie
perhaps. They have a dark tan fur coat, mixed with grey, and have
large eyes. They usually weigh between 4–6 lbs (1.8 kg – 2.7
kg).
If one of the parents is a long-haired Chihuahua, the
Chorkie will have a fuller coat than one who is part short haired
Chihuahua. Dogs who are partly short haired often have very short
(almost non-existent) hair on their belly and a wirey coat that
requires a lot of brushing.
Personality
Chorkies are
affectionate and energetic dogs, combining the trademark traits of
Chihuahuas and Terriers. They are playful (especially with toys),
and enjoy 'playing fetch'. Some prefer being total lapdogs and will
sit with their owner for as long as they are allowed. They are very
attached to the owner that they took to first. They will guard
them, and get a bit jealous when their owner gives attention to
another person or animal. As with fashion-concious owners of 'toy'
breed dogs, owners frequently take to dressing their dogs in
clothes.
