Christian Alexander Maria, Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (Chris Strachwitz) (b. Gross Reichenau, Province of Lower Silesia, Germany, now Bogaczów, Gmina Męcinka, Jawor County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, July 1, 1931), is the founder and president of Arhoolie Records, which he established in 1960.[1] Prior to this, he was a high school teacher in Los Gatos, California.

Strachwitz was a son of Alexander Maria Hubertus Hyacinthus, Graf Strachwitz von Gross-Zauche und Camminetz (Gross Reichenau, Lower Silesia, Germany, November 29, 1894 – Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, July 11, 1962) and wife (m. Berlin, February 24, 1927) Friederike Frances Adelheid von Bredow (Berlin, November 2, 1906 – November 29, 2003), daughter of Leopold Waldemar von Bredow (Bredow bei Nauen, October 31, 1875 – Lausanne, October 1, 1933 and wife (m. Washington, D.C., May 6, 1905) Frances Newlands (San Francisco, California, November 21, 1880 – Berlin, August 21, 1907), daughter of Francis G. Newlands and wife Clara Adelaide Sharon.[2]

He emigrated to the United States in 1947 after World War II and has made a career out of finding and publishing previously unrecorded or obscure blues and folk musicians.
