Chris Townsend (born March 15 1972), is a sports radio talk show host. He currently hosts Sports Overnight America on the Sports_Byline_USA with Larry Krueger.

Biography



Early Life


Chris Townsend came to the Bay Area in the early 90’s on a baseball scholarship to San Jose State University where he became team captain his senior year while also receiving his degree in radio, television and film. It’s no surprise Chris enjoyed success on the diamond. His grandfather, seven time all-star Bob Elliott, was named the National League MVP in 1947 becoming the first third baseman in baseball history to win the award.

Radio Career


Chris Townsend has spent the last 12 years compiling an array of credits in the San Francisco Bay Area sports landscape. Currently he is covering Northern California sports for Comcast Sports Net, FSN Bay Area and Sports 1140 KHTK, CBS radio. During the NFL season he host the San Francisco 49ers television show 49ers Insider for CSN. During the spring he anchors the pre and post game shows for the San Jose SaberCats on FSN Bay Area. Chris also hosts the SaberCats magazine show SaberCats Weekly which can also be seen on FSN Bay Area. On the radio side Chris and his partner Larry Krueger continue to entertain Northern California sport fan on Sports 1140 KHTK in Sacramento. The Krug and Towny Show has now been on the air for over two years. In addition, he’s has recently been named the play-by-play voice for the new MMA league The Palace Fighting Championship. Chris has also made several appearances on CBS’s Last Honest Sports Show and hosted Comcast Sports Net West’s Fight Night at the Tank.
Chris first appeared on the Bay Area sports scene as host of his own weekend “Sports Insiders” show on KNBR 680 in San Francisco. From there he leaped over to the mornings and for the next six years, was the sports authority for the KNBR Morning Show. While at the Sports Leader, he hosted pre and post game shows for the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors while also producing and creating a three minute segment before Giants broadcasts. In addition to anchoring KNBR’s coverage of the AT&T National Pro AM for 6 years, he also covered the 1998 US Open at the Olympic Club, 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach, Super Bowl XXXVII, 2003 Final Four, and the 2002 World Series, and was a regular contributor on Fox Sports’ 49ers All Access in 2003.
On top of his primary work covering the 49ers, Giants, A’s, Raiders, Warriors and Sharks, Chris has also interviewed some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment including Willie Mays, Bill Murray, Tiger Woods, Robin Williams, Joe Montana, Steve Young and Carmen Electra.
Chris has also represented some of the most recognizable names in the corporate world including Cingular Wireless, Ford Motor Company, UPS, Direct Buy and Jack Nicklaus Golf.

Chris Townsend is married with twin girls.
