The
Christian Democratic Party (CDP) is a new,
indeed embryonic,
political party in the
United States of America.
It was conceived because of a perception among many
Christians (mostly
Evangelicals and
Catholics) and others that find
themselves caught in the gulf between the two dominant political
parties in America.
While the CDP in the United States is not as
yet formally related to the larger more established
Christian Democratic parties
around the world, it nevertheless should be considered in the
mainstream of
Christian Democratic thought and
movement. It is generally considered
conservative on social-moral issues, and
pragmatic-
populist on
social-economic issues, advocating
social market
economics. Because of the varying political climates, the CDP
(USA) could be considered a
centrist party in the United States, and could be
considered a
center-right party in
European politics.
