Charles Francis Christopher Hawkes (5 June 1905 – 3 April 1992) was an English archaeologist and a professor of European prehistory at Oxford University (1946-1972).

He was educated at Winchester College and New College, Oxford, where he obtained first class honours in classics.

In 1933 he was married to Jacquetta Hopkins, divorced, and then married Sonia Chadwick in 1959.

He developed the theory "Ladder of Inference" which has seven categories.
