CHROMATIC EXPERIMENT was formerly known as 4
Part Invention. C.E.'s music can be classified as ROCK (Rock
Fusion). The band name was derived from the musical term,
CHROMATIC Scale (any musical scale that contains more than
one consecutive half-step; in other words two adjacent pairs of
scale degrees or members which are separated by a semitone; a
pattern that results when all twelve adjacent semitones in an
octave are played successively; parent scale of all scales). The
base or foundation of all note scales. Adding the term
EXPERIMENT because of experimenting (fusing rock genres)
the chromatic scales to produce a funk, progressive, neo-classical,
blues rock, alternative, hard rock sound.
The group was founded
by the guitarist Carlo Bacalla who fell in love
with the musical instrument (guitars) and started playing guitar
when he was 10 and at that time, rock was on the height of the
charts. He decided to pursue a career in music and personally took
up a lesson under Maestro Jose Valdez and eventually molds him to
become a teacher in Yamaha school of Music when he was 19. He used
to practice 12 hours a day just to follow the path of his guitar
heroes like Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Van Halen,
Satrianni, Hendrix, SRV, and Wes Montgomery.
The band leader
met young drummer, Marc Angelo Talag (taking up a
music extension program in University of the Philippines ) who has
a great influence with his older brother (Jhun), Mike Mangini, Mike
Portnoy, Tim Alexander, Mar Dizon, Simon Philips, Buddy Rich, John
Bonham, Virgil Donnatti, and China Crisis. Mac-Mac started playing
drums when he was 5.
Chromatic Experiment absorbed
Jherz Tejada as the front man of the group and by
believing in his talents in singing. The vocalist was an
engineering graduate who used to paint at his earlier times and has
a great heart and passion of arts and music. Jherz is not a newbie
in the local music industry, he has a great knowledge in organizing
events, productions, and managing bands.
As the band faces new
challenges, the group welcomes Almar Mora to play
the bass. He began playing string instrument, specifically Banduria
when he still 9. And pushed himself in handling both guitar and
bass during high school. Influenced with Dream Theater, Steve Vai,
Malmsteen, Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Chromatic Experiment is formed to pay homage
to all of there musical heroes. You can hear some of their
influences creeping in theirs songs and style of playing. And
because of that they were forever grateful for them. Now, this is
the only way of thanking their masters for their inspiration and
influences they have absorbed.
