Ciara Byrne, born April 18, 1968
in Dublin, Ireland, is a transsexual woman. Feeling
"incomplete" in the male body
she was born in, she finally transitioned in spring of
1999. Although she is not a
celebrity outright (other than journalizing her journey online),
she has in recent days been confused with Ciara Harris, a popular Atlanta singer. Maybe because the two have the
same name, rumors began to spread that Ciara the singer (who was
born in 1985) was in fact
transsexual or
intersex. Currently,
Ciara tours the world championing the cause of women, gay, and
transgendered rights. She is also a frequent speaker on these
topics.
