Cindy Acree is a legislator in the U.S. state of Colorado. Elected to the Colorado House of Representatives as a Republican in 2008, Acree represents House District 40, which encompasses Elbert County and eastern Arapahoe County.[2]

Legislative career

2008 election

Acree saw no opposition in the August Republican primary, [3] but faced Democrat Karen Wilde in the November 2008 general election. Acree's candidacy was endorsed by the Aurora Sentinel[4] and the Denver Post,[5] and she won the election with 58 percent of the popular vote.[6]

2009 legislative session

For the 2009 legislative session, Acree was named to seats on the House Health and Human Services Committee and the House Local Government Committee.[7]

Before being sworn into office, Acree was approached by several individuals with ties to the Colorado Chiropractic Association, each of whom pressed her to support Rep. David Balmer in House leadership elections. A complaint by Acree prompted an ethics investigation against Balmer, who denied any wrongdoing;[8][9] while one of the lobbyists involved claimed ignorance of the applicable legislative rules.[10] The allegations against Balmer were dropped due to lack of evidence.[11]

Acree sponsored legislation to require an interim legislative committee to study health insurance portability.[12]
