Virgin Money US (formerly CircleLending) is a loan-servicing company originally founded by U.S. entrepreneur Asheesh Advani in May 2000,[1][2][3] launched in 2001,[4] and incorporated in July 2002. It primarily facilitated peer-to-peer loans similar to Prosper.com, Zopa and Lending Club.
In 2007, the Virgin Group took a majority-stake investment in the company and renamed it Virgin Money US, the American division of Virgin Money.[5][6] Like the global company, but unlike its peer-to-peer competitors, Virgin Money US now focuses on borrowers and lenders who already have an existing relationship (such as friends or family).
