City University of Seattle, also known as CityU, is a private not-for-profit institution of higher learning based in Bellevue, Washington, across Lake Washington from Seattle. After 35 years, the school is one of the Pacific Northwest's largest, private, not-for-profit U.S. universities with over 40,000 graduates; consisting of a School of Management, a School of Education, and a Division of Arts and Sciences. CityU of Seattle offers campus education around the world and online education.
City University of Seattle's School of Education is the third largest provider of teacher certificates, the second largest provider of principals and the largest provider of counselors in the state of Washington.

The university's School of Education is named after Dr. Gordon Albright, a distinguished educator, with a well-recognized career in education in Washington. He was a long serving teacher and principal in the Seattle School District. He then spent several years on the faculty at Seattle University. He advised City University of Seattle's during the founding years in 1973. He laid the groundwork for the School of Education in 1989 and guided the approval of School of Education's teacher preparation through the State of Washington's Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. He is also credited with the initial design of the Master of Education programs. Dr. Albright retired in 2000 and the School of Education was named in his honor to recognize his service to City University of Seattle and education in the State of Washington.
Although the school is based in the Pacific Northwest, the university has currently established a far reaching presence around the globe by annually conferring degrees locally on three continents. Programs are established in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Mexico, Canada, Australia and China. Since the 90s, The School of Management has been strategically aggressive in this effort since the launching of one of the first MBA programs in Eastern Europe [2] in 1991 and one of the earliest government approved foreign MBA programs in China in 1996. Today, this initiative has led to partnership with local colleges and universities in eleven foreign countries. In 1999, the university's business school extended its reach with a partnership with Institutul Bancar Roman and the Romanian National Bank to offer business education and training to commercial banks and financial institutions. A partnership was also formed with CETYS Universidad and Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León of Mexico to offer business education. Further, expanded programs with countries such as Chile, England, Switzerland and Australia, global student and faculty perspectives are a mainstay in the CityU classroom.
City University of Seattle's campuses are surrounded by a commercial hub of corporate headquarters such as T-Mobile, Microsoft, Starbucks, Expedia, and Eddie Bauer. The university's main campus location is statistically ranked as one of the wealthiest in the state of Washington, and incidentally, revealed in a Bizjournal study is that the city boasts the largest concentration of brainpower in the United States, with 47% of the population holding college degrees, nearly doubling the national average of 24.4%. It is also noted that according to a Central Connecticut State University study, Seattle is surveyed as one of the most literate and wired cities in the country.
Through a local and international network of educational partners, City University of Seattle offers higher education in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. In 2008, the university formed an International Division and the Office of the Provost to broaden its global reach.
There are over 25 CityU campuses found in Bellevue, Bellingham, Centralia, Everett, North Seattle, Port Angeles, Port Hadlock, Renton, Tacoma, and Vancouver, Washington, as well as in Canada, specifically, Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia; Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.

Harvard University has ranked City University of Seattle among the most prestigious universities offering online education in the United States. Fast Company performed an editorial review of five U.S. universities offering online degee programs, gave CityU a grade of A- [3]. In 2008, OEDb, a for profit organization, ranked CityU's online program as 28th in the nation. City University of Seattle's Student SIFE Team was the overall league champion of 2006 and 2007. CityU’s U.S. team is the only SIFE team in North America that is comprised entirely of international students and the only Western Washington team to advance to the national competition.
City University of Seattle's Business School joint partnership with the Beijing University of Technology was recognized by World Executive Weekly, a leading Chinese management periodical established by Nobel Prize winner in economics, Robert A. Mundell, as "The Top Ten Most Influential Sino-Foreign Joint MBA Programs" in China[6]. After establishing programs in Bulgaria, City University of Seattle's MBA program is considered to be an excellent addition to the educational spectrum available in the Balkan region.[citation needed]
