Claire Naughton officially announced her candidacy for State
Representative for the 1st Bristol District in May of 2006. After
having prevously running against Virginia Coppola in the special
election in February of 2006 to replace the seat formerly occupied
by Coppola's late husband, Representative Michael Coppola, Naughton
has decided to run for the House seat once again, after securing
45% of the vote back in February--the first Democrat to recieve
more than 39% in over 20 years.
Naughton is a progressive
Democrat and has been a resident of Foxboro for over 30 years. She
will be campaigning to succeed Mrs. Coppola, also of Foxboro, who
has decided not to seek re-election.
Naughton's announcement was
followed by the news of several key endorsements, many of which
also endorsed her in the Special Election. These endorsements
include: the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers, Boston Teachers
Union, United Auto Workers, Region 9A CAP Council, International
Union of Operating Engineers Local #4, Sierra Club, Massachusetts
Chapter, Clean Water Action, National Organization for Women,
Massachusetts Chapter, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Mass
Alliance, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, Massachusetts Women's
Political Caucus, the Bay State Stonewall Democrats, and Neighbor
to Neighbor Massachusetts.
Claire Naughton resides with her
husband, Dennis in Foxboro. Claire is a retired school teacher for
the Attleboro public school system, and Dennis is the recently
retired assistant principal of Norton High School. Claire an Dennis

The 1st Bristol
District is comprised of the entire town of Foxborough, precincts
1, 3, and 6 in the town of Mansfield, and precincts 3, 4, and 5 in
the town of Norton.
