Clickwheel is a free service offered for
webcomics allowing comic creators to provide their comics to their viewers to be copied to an
iPod.
The service is operated from the
United Kingdom and allows people to "
subscribe" to the
syndicated releases of their favorite webcomic.
Although Clickwheel's primary objective is "getting comics on iPods" via traditional image file formats, the company has taken advantage of the
Apple iTunes delivery portal by releasing comics as
mp4 movie files, and as
pdf files.
[505] The move to mp4 movie files further tests the boundaries of what is a comic, and what is animation, while the pdf files move webcomic delivery to the desktop computer as well.
[506]The Clickwheel setup also allows users to set up their subscriptions to include their music playing over the comic.
Clickwheel was featured during a panel at
Comic-Con International 2006, the comic industry's largest yearly convention in the US.
The panel, entitled "Clickwheel: Comics for Your iPod," discussed "the possibilities of comics for handheld media, digital delivery, and where to find comics for your shiny new gadgets."
