Clopenthixol is a typical antipsychotic of the thioxanthene class. It works as a dopamine antagonist.

The (Z)-isomer (cis-isomer) of clopenthixol, zuclopenthixol, is widely used as an antipsychotic. Both are equally effective and have similar adverse effect profiles, but clopenthixol is half as active on a milligram-to-milligram basis and appears to produce more sedation.[1]
