Cocadaboa is a Brazilianhumouristicwebsite currently hosted in the United States for
legal reasons. The site's very name is a
word game that can be read either as coca da boa (good
coca) or cocada boa (good coconut sweet) and the original
logo was inspired on Coca-Cola's to make the meaning even more
ambiguous. Cocadaboa is maintained mostly by a sysop that goes by the moniker of Mr.
Manson, with the help of a team of writers.
Cocadaboa's
humour is based mostly on four things:
Internet humour, related to exposing stupid
things said or done by people (famous or not) which are eventually
leaked in the web. They also maintain a funny list of trash
links (sic) pointing to incredibly silly or amateuristic
sites.
Social satire,
usually by means of lengthier articles commenting on current
events. One of the site's highlights is a section called
Calúnia & Difamação (Libel & Defamation)
in which they publish fake interviews with famous people.
Rumour spreading, the site
has been unbelievably successful in spreading stupid rumours that
are often taken seriously by careless journalists and published in
mainstream media. Their recipe appears to be simple: mix something
people see as very good (Coca-Cola, for instance) and something
that people see as evil, dangerous or deadly (cancer, for instance) and then create a bogus
story involving the two of them and some renowned media or scientific research institution (for instance:
Johns Hopkins University has discovered that Coca-Cola causes
cancer on kids). They have a gallery exposing respectable
magazines and newspapers from Brazil, France and the United States
that were fooled by their rumours.
Surrealistic humour, a la
Monty Python
in the form of blog entries or
articles.
