ComSonics, Inc, founded in the late 1960’s, is located in Harrisonburg, Virginia in the central Shenandoah Valley. ComSonics evolved from Warren Braun Engineers; founded and owned by Dr. Warren Braun, whose specialization focused on acoustical design for coliseums, auditoriums, and churches.

In 1968, as the CATV Industry developed, Dr. Braun identified a “niche market” in the repair of CATV equipment, which led him to rename his company and pursue this new opportunity. Dr. Braun’s vision for ComSonics was to be a customer driven company, providing external technological support and engineering expertise to the budding CATV industry.

Along with a group of innovative young engineers, who Dr. Braun’s wife, Dickie, referred to as “The Boys From the Basement”, Dr. Braun operated ComSonics in the basement of his home until 1972. By that time, ComSonics had outgrown its humble beginnings and moved to an office in downtown Harrisonburg. In 1972, ComSonics was incorporated and moved to its current location at 1350 Port Republic Road in Harrisonburg.

ComSonics operates the largest CATV repair facility in the United States. ComSonics presently offers nationwide coverage from four strategically located facilities: Harrisonburg, VA; Indianapolis, IN; Jupiter, FL and Sacramento, CA. They provide quality repair services on Distribution, Headend, Test, Power Supply, & Fiber Optic equipment.

In addition to offering repair services, ComSonics began manufacturing CATV Test & Measurement instruments in 1975. ComSonics’ first product, the Sniffer® Detector, has since been followed by a full line of detection products and today is the de facto standard for CATV leakage detection. The innovative Sniffer product was followed by the industry’s first full spectrum view signal level meter, the Window®, and the industry’s first, truly handheld signal level meter, the WindowLite™. Other products and lines offered by ComSonics include CyberTek™ Qualifier (home shielding integrity qualifier), PathFinder™ (underground cable locator), TDR Tech™ (cable fault locator), and CyberTek™ Examiner (proof of performance signal processor).

In 1999, after many successful years of manufacturing, ComSonics took the initiative to offer its manufacturing services to other organizations by divisifying into contract manufacturing. In 2001 this new wholly owned subsidiary of ComSonics became incorporated as CEMSI, ComSonics Electronic Manufacturing Services Incorporated. CEMSI relocated to a new facility in Weyers Cave, Virginia in December of 2003. As a subsidiary of ComSonics, Inc., CEMSI provides complete electronics assembly and manufacturing services to customers across the country and around the world. CEMSI’s key processes are fully automated, maintaining the latest technology in electronics assembly and functional testing. CEMSI is a preferred source for turnkey electronics manufacturing.

As illustrated above, many factors have contributed to our phenomenal growth, but none is more important than the human factor. Being a 100 percent Employee-Owned Company, each employee at ComSonics has the opportunity to become an owner based on tenure with the company. Each employee owner is an empowered worker, and as such, is motivated to be acutely aware of the products and services produced. It is this involvement and commitment to their employees that has been the catalyst for success.
