History

CIP was started in Denton, Texas in 2004 as part of the University of North Texas' annual International Week. It quickly outgrew these beginnings, however, and is registered as a not-for-profit with Denton County. CIP is also affiliated with UNT's peace studies program, the first such program in the Southwestern United States.

Events

CIP presents annual roundtable discussions on timely topics of peace, featuring noteworthy academics, politicians, and organizations such as Amnesty International. It has co-sponsored a conference with Peace Action Denton, and organized a street party and released a Compact Disc. It has also organized fasting in a "Hunger-a-Thon," garnering praise from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for the money and attention raised for the refugees from the Darfur conflict in Sudan.

Expansion

CIP is expanding rapidly with members presently in Germany, Bahrain, and New Jersey. A website is being developed.
