The Community For Alternative Sources of Energy (CASE) is an
Illinoisnon-profit organization with pending
tax-exempt status that encourages the use of alternative energy
sources in public buildings, focusing primarily on Chicago
Public Schools. It currently consists mainly of students from
Northside College
Preparatory High School in Chicago, which is the test site for the
organizations prototype implementation of solar-thermal cells,
windmills, and geothermal energy water heaters. They also are
involved in a side project to distribute fluorescent light bulbs to families of students at
Northside.
In 2006, the City of Chicago promised to purchase all
of the solar-thermal cells necessary to heat about 50% of the water
at Northside (mainly the pool), on the condition that CASE provide
funds for the installation of said cells.
