Since the release of the first version of
Microsoft Windows
in November 1985<ref> </ref>, people have compared
Microsoft's
operating
system with the
Macintosh
operating system produced by
Apple Computer and first released in
January 1984.
Some people devote large amounts of time to
comparing the two<ref> </ref>.
Viruses
The
Windows platform has 114,000 viruses and counting while Mac OS X
has only 1 virus.
Gaming
Mac personal computers have
been widely criticized in the computer gaming sphere. This is due
largely to the fact that many computer games were only natively
coded for the Windows operating system, due to the very small
percentage of end users who owned alternative operating systems. In
recent years, many more games have become available on the Mac.
This is partly due to new games being written natively for the Mac,
and partly through the advent of methods to run windows upon a Mac.
Emulation is one such method, but emulators inherently cause slow
speeds and a decrease in quality. However, since Macs began using
Intel Processors, it has
become possible to run Windows without the need for
emulation.
Stability
The recent versions of both Mac and
Windows have great operating stability. However, both are capable
of freezing and crashing, requiring a reboot of the operating
system. These crashes can be caused both by system software errors
and by strain on hardware, which is generally independent of the
operating system. It is worthy to note that the hardware that Mac
operating systems are run on is restricted by the Mac EULA, while
Windows hardware is far less
restricited.
