Compassion Ministries is a non-profit organization founded by Pastor
Ron Mehl in Portland, Oregon in 1994.
Together with the
Heart of the Word radio broadcast, Compassion Ministries is committed to communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the ministry of the written and audio legacy of founder Ron Mehl.
History
At the direction of the Lord , Pastor Ron Mehl left Kenosha, Wisconsin, and his position as a District Youth Director in the Great Lakes region to become the senior pastor of the
Beaverton Foursquare Church in Beaverton, Oregon.
At first glance, with a congregation of only a dozen people on that first Sunday, it seemed like an extreme step of faith.
It was.
Over the next 30 years, however, through the blessings of God and the faithfulness of Pastor Ron and his wife Joyce, Pastor Ron and Joyce ended up shepherding a congregation which grew to attendance on Sundays of over 6,000 people.
Pastor Ron always attributed the blessings of the Lord which were received by the Beaverton Church to the prayers and commitment of those original few members, on the faithfulness of the pastor who had gone before him, and, most importantly, to a sovereign act of God.
It was out of this heart, prompted by the Lord Himself , that Compassion Ministries was born.
His vision for Compassion Ministries was that it would be a resource from which to draw in order to bless struggling young pastors and missionaries, to assist with missions projects worldwide, and generally further the communication of the Gospel of Jesus.
Though Pastor Ron went to be with the Lord in May 2003, Compassion Ministries continues to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ today.
Compassion Ministries oversees the Heart of the Word broadcast, which was established in 1979 and features sermons from Pastor Ron’s 30-year tenure as the senior pastor of the Beaverton Foursquare Church.
The broadcast can be heard nationally on the radio as well as on the Internet.
Compassion Ministries makes available the messages of Pastor Ron's ministry from Beaverton Foursquare Church, offers selected series of topical messages, and offers the numerous books that he authored.
