Consortium (also known as
West Coast Consortium) was a
UK band, formed in the late 1960s and disbanded in 1980.
It achieved chart success with the 1969 single
All the love in the world on
Pye Records.
Further recordings with Pye records, Trend and later
Angel Air sold well, though they did not reach the charts.
The vocal harmony group changed with the times to
progressive rock.
Throughout the seventies Consortium enjoyed great success as a touring band, also working extensively as a
session band for other artists gaining a reputation for being able to work well in the recording studio reliably and quickly.
The most significant and influential lineup consisted of
Robbie Leggat (vocals),
Mick Ware and
Brian Parker (guitars), Ken Brown (bass) and John Parker (drums).
They were appealing and a popular touring attraction because the material they performed on tours was self penned, the musical ability was way above average and the stage act was exciting.
In 1975 the band were commissioned to write material and record for the
RCA label but due to the political climate at that time the LP was shelved; the UK arm of the label deciding to "tighten its belt financially".
The band having built a large following carried on touring and doing session work finally coming off the road in 1980.
This was not the finish of Consortium though they continued to work and play together throughout the 80's and 90's, and the fated RCA recordings were released in 2006 on the Angel Air label as
Rebirth (SJPCD 216).
Drummer John Parker had died in 2002.
