Constable Neyla is a fictional character from the
video game
Sly 2: Band of
Thieves.
History
Before ever setting foot in Sly
2, Neyla grew up poor in
New Delhi, India, and scammed her way into a
British university, gathering a ring of friends to do her homework
for her. She was then caught by
Interpol, who thought that she could "get into the
mind of the criminal"; rather than arresting her, they offered her
a job.
After joining Interpol, Neyla was given the role of
constable, and was partnered with
Carmelita Fox, who was less than thrilled
with working with a former con artist.
Neyla and Carmelita
first arrested Sly Cooper in a museum in
Cairo, in the introduction to
Sly 2: Band of
Thieves. Neyla distracted Carmelita by mentioning the
Klaww Gang, which
caught Sly's attention. After his escape, Sly set off to retrieve
the
Clockwerk parts.
In
Paris, Sly
unexpectedly meets Neyla, who says that she wants to help. She
hands him a key into
Dimitri Lousteau's nightclub after a
tireless chase across the rooftops. In episode two, when Sly sneaks
into
Rajan's ball, he uses Neyla to impress
Carmelita. When this works, Sly dances with her. Neyla takes a
picture of them dancing for later use.
When Sly was at Rajan's
temple, Neyla showed him where the secret entrance was to one half
of the Clockwerk heart — but then showed her true colors
by allowing Sly to be electrocuted by Rajan's bolts of electricity
and seriously injured. After Rajan was defeated by
Murray, Neyla
then led police to the criminals. Neyla also framed Carmelita as
their accomplice (using the picture she took earlier); so Sly,
Murray, and Carmelita were arrested.
Neyla was later dispatched
by Interpol to capture a corrupt Contessa. Commanding an army of
mercenaries, she
attempted to steal one of the Clockwerk Eyes for herself. However,
interference from both the Contessa and the vengeful Cooper Gang
prevented her from succeeding. Placing the Contessa in custody,
Neyla was promoted to captain. She then trailed the Cooper Gang to
Canada, where she used a high-tech aircraft against them in an
attempt to seize the Clockwerk Stomach. However, her vehicle proved
unable to defeat Bentley's RC Chopper.
Later, Neyla was revealed
to be Arpeggio's protegé. When Arpeggio was getting toward
Clockwerk's body, Neyla knocked him over with her whip. She then
jumped into Clockwerk. She took the name Clock-la, and was free to
terrorize the world. After destroying her power engines, she was
weakened by Sly's shots. Neyla then kidnapped Bentley and Murray,
forcing Sly to chase after her. When defeated in the air, Neyla
crash landed in Paris.
Murray pried open the mouth and revealed
a
hologram of Neyla's
face. Bentley then took out the Hate Chip. The mouth then
unexpectedly dropped on Bentley's legs (which is the cause of
Bentley's
paralysis
in
Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves). Murray got him out.
Carmelita took the Hate Chip and destroyed it, and the parts became
worthless. Neyla's body was never recovered, and she is presumed
dead.
Although Neyla doesn't appear in Sly 3: Honor Among
Thieves as anything more than flashbacks, she played a major role
in the Cooper gang's history. She reincarnated Clockwerk, had Sly
and Murray almost hypnotized, and had almost cost Carmelita her
career. The most painful predicament, however, was paralyzing
Bentley and confining him to a wheelchair for
life.
Personality
Before being revealed as a criminal,
Neyla appeared to be an Interpol member with a more accepting view
of criminals than Carmelita. She eventually partnered with Sly, and
he actually began to trust her. Neyla did not appear to dislike him
for professional reasons, and showed some personal interest in him.
It seemed for a time as though she might replace Carmelita as his
love interest, since Sly asked her out on a date in Bollywood.
There was certainly no love lost between her and her fellow
officer, as she goes out of her way to discredit and mock
Carmelita.
Upon betraying Sly and the gang, Neyla's true nature
was revealed: she was a born manipulator, completely devoid of
conscience and
empathy. She betrayed
Arpeggio so that she could seize the Clockwerk Frame for herself
(technically, Neyla was a
sociopath, though not said in this game, since Sly
2 is a family friendly game). However, many say that if Neyla
hadn't betrayed the Cooper gang and was still alive, she would be
Sly's love interest.
General information
Neyla is an
anthropomorphic cat of Hindu features. Her choice of weapon was a
whip, but she also possessed a high-tech aircraft in an attempt to
get the Clockwerk stomach.
