Coogi is a fashion label known for its colorful knitwear.[1]. Founded in 1969 as Cuggi in Toorak, Melbourne, Australia, the label was renamed in 1987 to sound more like an indigenous Australian name[2].

While most famous for its textured knitwear (including many of the sweaters Bill Cosby wore on The Cosby Show) in the 1980s, the brand was popularized in the U.S. as urban hip-hop wear.[3] In addition to clothing, the company's 1992 international trademark filing registered the brand for cosmetics and toiletries, leather, furniture, textiles, and toys.[4]

The brand struggled after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and was purchased by a joint U.S venture, Coogi Partners LLC in 2002, by an investment group led by Jimmy Khezri.[5]

Under its new ownership, the label has taken a significantly more urban direction. Coogi now produces a wide range of urban t-shirts, jeans and jackets in addition to their trademark knitwear.

Born in Australia, raised in Europe and growing up on the streets of America, Coogi is truly an international brand. It's heritago as an Australian brand inspired it's classic vibrant patterns and color palette true to the wild and authentic bravado that is Australian heritage. Acquired by the Weisfeld Group of Companies in 2003 one of the first charges was to add the element of high end appeal which naturally brought them first to the design houses of Milan and then to the heart of New York where they tapped into a more sophisticated luxe look... Perfect for the aspirational needs of today's young man. Coogi's greatest asses is still it's 36 year history, reaching back into 1969. Their unusual knitting technique and twisted yarn sweaters makes the brand easily recognizable. Coogi design concepts are based on four fundamental factors:

Color- Which shows the vibrance and tumultousness.
Momement- Which consists of swirling serpentine knits and amazing intrinsic detail.
Pattern- Whose intricate layers of different depth and positions also included.
Texture-Which causes the cotton or knit feel luxurious and sort of buttery softness, or smooth feels.

Add to that mix a dedication to detail and quality which the company feels makes it a tough brand to beat. And it's no surprise that the brand is on fire since they continually strive to bring unique, quality merchandise to the marketplace. According the the lead designer Barrie Blue they feel that "We are, and have always been, the epitome of the iconic luxury urban brand"
Usually the suggested retail price for a hooded sweatshirt from the would be around the price of $450. Jeans usually cost $125, and shorts or linens costs around $88. (All U.S. Currency)

With the move of designing from Australia to Milan the company eventually became more known for more than just their sweater which were popularized in the 1980's by Bill Cosby, which caused it to be nicknamed as "Cosby Sweaters" rather than the real name "Coogi" But as they jumped forward into other classifications has been a huge success they have persistently stayed close to their core values incorporationg elements of the old aesthetic into new, giving a solid nod to the Australian heritage such as the "sweater wave" and "COOGI logo" branding elements that are visible in everything from tees to track jackets, to denims. Although they are Australian they are normally known as an urban brand for the styles of clothing that they make. Mostly appealing to the successful hood hustlers, and people who like aspirational designs.
