Corum Online (CO) is a free-to-play
MMORPG developed by the Korean company NetTime Soft.
The game is provided to the American market through
Gala-Net.
Gala-Net are also the distributors of the games
Flyff,
Rappelz,
Space Cowboy Online,
Shot Online and
UpShift StrikeRacer.
In the past couple of years, Corum Online has been one of the high ranked games in both the Japanese and Korean Markets.
Corum Online game servers went live at 5pm PST (GMT -8) on 15th February 2007.
Corum Online is similar to many other MMORPG's, but has a few different features, such as not being able to choose gender and race for classes and the ability to fight for ownership of dungeons, which provide a few benefits.
There is a large number of items in the game, however early on customization is limited, with merchants not selling items for certian classes, such as the Arcus, in early towns.
There is the Cash Shop items to change appearance, and these are quite unique, but do not relate to any stat boosts or class appearances.
Multiclassing exists in Corum, although many skills are class specific.
A multiclassed character is often weaker in many regards but it is often a good idea for a fighter to learn a healing spell.
For example, for each time a priest skill is increased, the priest mastery increases by 1.
To unlock the priest buffs (skills which improve other player's statistics) you need to have 35-70 mastery points.
If you choose to divert your skill levelling to other classes such as sorceress which may help you in pvp or solo levelling, it will take you much longer to unlock these higher level skills.
In this system, players can choose what type of "build" you want to create, for example if you wanted to be a "battle priest" which is a priest with the emphasis on attacking, you can chose to learn other attacking skills while also having healing spells quite high.
On the other hand if you wanted to be a "buff & heal priest" you simply learn the priest buffs and heals .
This allows additional diversity in the players.
There is no one "build" for any class - this means that players have to think about what you want your character to do, and play around with the skills.
Due to the PVP system and the versatility of the character build system, Corum Online is a game that is dominated by parties (where a group of characters work together and share the rewards) and Guilds.
However, as the game is fairly new, there is not as many guild battles as you would think, and many dungeons are unoccupied.

The
character classes in Corum are slightly different then most other role playing games; each of them is seemingly based on an existing storyline character, though the effect of which is purely for flavour.
The gender and race of your character is that of their classes' storyline character, for example, all fighters are male, and all rangers are female.
There are a number of hairstyles to choose from depending on your gender, and your costume can change depending on the armour you wear, but other then that, every member of a class will look the same.
Characters can "multi-class", allowing them to gain the benifits and skills of multiple classes; though the penalty is that neither of their classes will be as strong as a character who trained as one class throughout.
Fighter
Fighters have the highest physical offense and defense of all the classes, as well as the highest stamina.
They also have the fastest motion speed, making them the fastest attackers.
Fighters use Ki to power their attacks, which is similar to other classes' SP, however it does not regenerate on its own, and there are no potions to restore it.
To regenerate, there is a skill called Ki Regeneration.
Ranger
Rangers have the highest accuracy and evasion, as well as a high physical offense and defense.
Despite their name being used commonly in games for classes excelling in long-distance fighting, Rangers in fact uses axes and swords.
Rangers use Chakra to power their attacks.
Sorceress
Sorceresses use Mana to cast spells.
The class has low physical stats, but a very high intellegence, which strengthens their spells.
Spells take time to cast, though multiple spells can be cast at one time.
For example, they can cast quick low level spells while they are chanting to cast a lengthy high level spell.
Priest
Priests cast spells relating to strengthening their parties.
They have the ability to seal away magic power, releasing and creating curses, strengthen their party's offencive and defensive abilities, and heal their party members when needed.
They have the third highest physical strength according to the Priest's page.
Priest magic is called Divine Action, and does not use up SP, therefore they do not need to boost their intellegnce for their skills, though it should be mentioned that overdrive abilities still do use SP.
Summoner
Arcus
Arcus are archers, able to attack at long ranges with their bows.
They have unlimited ammunition to attack with, though their attacks are generally weaker then most of the other classes.
At higher levels, they are able to tame monsters as well.
Arcus' are generally percieved to be a poor class, with few skills at low levels.
It is recommended that new players play as a different class.
Controversy over Quality
Several players have complained about the poor quality of text translation that has gone into transitioning the game from a primarily korean-speaking and reading audience to an english one.
Complaints have also been made about the quality of the graphcis, particularly from reviewers on such networks as IGN, GameFAQs, and others.
