The Countdown Timer is an e-commerce tool, allowing consumers to ascertain the remaining time to complete an online transaction in order to receive their product by a certain date. It was created by Brian Piere, co-founder of PrintsMadeEasy.com, which prints business cards and postcards for SOHO professionals and entrepreneurs.

Piere developed the Countdown Timer in response to consumer demand for timely arrival of products and services purchased online (especially during heavily trafficked periods such as Christmas). A determination was made for an online marketplace where customers would know exactly when they could expect to receive a product (by a certain date) and how much time remains to complete the purchase (for precise arrival).

The Countdown Timer has quickly emerged as a useful tool for online customers, many of whom may procrastinate in purchases leading up to a holiday, birthday or business deadline and require a fast turnaround. The timer was first implemented for customers who were in a rush to purchase business cards before a major meeting, appointment or convention. Other companies have already followed suit, in an effort to build trust with their customers, by utilizing comparable devices to ensure accurate arrival dates.
