Counterparts was established in 1980 as the first coeda
cappella singing group at the University of Pennsylvania. It
began as a jazz group and its
repertoire consisted primarily of standards. Today it has evolved into a
jazz and pop a cappella group, though it still strives to
maintain its jazz roots. Its songs have been featured on the
Best of College A Cappella (BOCA)
albums.
Well-known alumni include up-and-coming neo-soul artist
John
Legend.
