Creative Memories is a supplier of photo-safe
scrapbooking
products which uses a
multi-level marketing process to
market scrapbooking to the general public. It currently operates
business in
Australia,
Austria,
Canada,
Germany,
Japan,
New Zealand,
Puerto Rico,
South Africa,
Taiwan,
United Kingdom and the
United States [543]. Creative
Memories was founded by Cheryl Lightle and Rhonda Anderson in 1987.
The original name of the company was "Shoebox to
Showcase".
Creative Memories' stated mission is "to preserve the
past, enrich the present and inspire hope for the future." They
rely on a network of over 90,000 consultants to sell scrapbooking
products and develop this
niche market. Creative Memories promotes the
"photo safety" of their products, claiming that all of their paper,
pens, adhesive tape, and other scrapbooking supplies are chemically
neutral, and do not degrade photos. Creative Memories scrapbooking
products are only available from a local Creative Memories
Consultant.
Similar to
Tupperware, Creative Memories relies on
individual sales consultants to create a bond between the company
and the customer. This is done through personal sales appointments
and local scrapbooking events. Their desired niche culture is based
on photo safety, as well as journaling, the written history of
memories within scrapbooks and photo albums, to preserve the
personal meaning and importance behind the photos. Their emphasis
has recently shifted from Memory Preservation to Memory
Celebration.
Creative Memories now also offers organization and
memory preservation using digital options, including digital
scrapbooking and digital creation of hardcopy albums, or
"StoryBooks". They also provide online marketing and organization
tools for their sales consultants.
Creative Memories publishes a
bimonthly magazine,
Lasting Moments.
