From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Creme de Banane is a yellow, transparent, sweet, banana flavored liqueur with roughly 17-25% ABV.

This liqueur is generally preferred in a cocktail, but is also a pleasant drink on its own when served over shaved ice at the end of a grand meal.

It can also be used as a syrup on frozen desserts or in some baked dishes to add a massive boost of banana flavor.

Many companies such as Marie Brizard, Lucas Bols and De Kuyper Royal Distillers of the Netherlands make the product; it is based on neutral-tasting, un-aged grape brandy, flavored by infusion or maceration.

Recipe for Homemade Creme de Banana

  • 2 medium-sized bananas, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or a 2" length of vanilla bean
  • 1 cup sugar syrup
  • 3 cups vodka
  1. Mash the bananas, and add the vanilla and cooled syrup to the vodka.
  2. Shake gently, steep for 1 week. Strain and filter. Drink now, or age 2-3 months for best results.
  3. Double the sugar for "Creme de Banana".

Optional flavorings: a pinch of cloves, a piece of cinnamon stick.
