Creswell Hall is a first-year co-ed dormitory at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. It is named after Mary Ethel Creswell, the first woman to receive a degree at the university. Creswell, or 'the Well', as it is commonly known among students, is located in close proximity of UGA Food Service's Bolton Dining Hall. The East-West and Russell Hall bus routes provide direct service to Creswell Hall, while the Ag Hill route stops at nearby Russell Hall.

Student life

With a population of 965 students, Creswell is known for its sense of community. Creswell is comprised of nine floors with four halls on every floor, so that it is in the shape of a "T". At the tip of the "T", from right to left, are A and B Halls, while the remaining long halls are known as C and D Halls. The ninth floor is the only floor with movable furniture and is often called the Penthouse Suite.

The Creswell Community Council has won the Hall Council of the Year award at the annual NRHH/RHA Banquet for the past four years (including the 2005-06 school year). During the 2005-06 school year, Creswell Community Council had the best president it has ever seen in Jimmy Ball, an outstanding student and overall awesome person who is always willing to lend a helping hand where it is needed. They also had an amazing vice-president in Andrew Jackson who won the Creswell Choice award for the 2005-2006 school year. Through this duo's guidance, the CCC sponsored many outstanding programs which could be enjoyed not only by Creswell residents, but by anyone who wanted to stop by. Programs included an End of Fall-Semester Bash which included live music from Beyond Tomorrow, free pizza and drinks, and a late night dance party in the TV lounge. Also, CCC hosted a $5 entry fee Texas Hold'em poker tournament which included door prizes, and a digital camera, DVD player, and stereo for first, second, and third places (respectively).

UGA Housing often sponsors Creswell Community events. For instance, a typical Creswell gathering may be a petting zoo set up in either of the dormitory's lounges. Other examples include a midnight Chick-fil-A breakfast during finals or a riveting game of Capture the Flag.

The Major Mondays program meets in Creswell every Monday to discuss career options or address concerns students may have about their major.

It is no secret that the ninth floor, commonly referred to as "The Penthouse," is the best floor. They know how to keep it "crunk."

The Resident Assistant (RA) of 9AB is Andrew Watson, commonly called Watson, 80-Watt, Watty-Watt, and Hotson. He is particularly proficient in exhibiting "Crunkness" and regulating "Crunktivities" on the ninth floor.

The Resident Assistant of 9D (the real Penthouse) is Raj Shah. He won a campus-wide RA of the year award as a sophomore RA in Creswell. He is possibly the best RA that UGA has ever employed, and was also nominated for Homecoming King during the 2005 football season. Though he was defeated by Adam Gobin, it is only because Gobin had a distinct advantage from being a 2005 First-Year Orientation Leader. And Adam Gobin is stupid...

Creswell's Peter Moes is the best Assistant Area Coordinator UGA has seen in many a year, even though he's a Michigan fan.

Also, available to all residents are: faulty internet (at best), mostly due to students pirating movies and music via the University connection; frequent, late night/early morning fire alarms; slow, dirty, and cramped elevators; and occasionally dirty water in the bathrooms. But hey, like they say, "At least it's close to Bolton!" <!--Shouldn't it say "next" to Bolton? Many UGA residence halls are "close" to Bolton.-->

Services and Amenities

Creswell's greatest advantage to its residents may be the academic advising office located on the bottom floor. Students can quickly and easily be advised without making a long trek to North Campus.

Also located on the bottom floor are spacious, newly renovated study areas. All study lounges are covered by UGA's wireless network PAWS (personal access wireless/walkup system). In addition, Creswell Hall is home to a 24-hour computer lab, complete with high-speed Internet access and speedy printing. Washers, driers, and vending machines complete the main floor ensemble, all of which accept Bulldog Bucks, a system of payment that utilizes one's UGA ID card.

Fire Alarms

Creswell is well known for its frequent fire alarms. A typical Creswell fire alarm occurs between 1:00 and 5:00 AM (i.e. 8:00-11:00 PM), and results in the residents being outside for between one and two hours (i.e. 15-20 minutes). Most fire alarms result from burning popcorn or other food in the microwave; however, other sources (i.e. students playing with fire extinguishers) have also been known to trip the alarm. It is often joked that the Athens-Clarke County Fire Department would save money if they built a station next to the infamous dormitory, but they always come with a smile.
