Season 5 kicks off an exciting new chapter in the history of CricSim. An influx of new members and support for the competition has seen the Bannerman Shield expand to seven teams, with the Pumas and Ravens added to the existing Sticky Wickets, Allstars, Crusaders, Cyclones and Vipers outfits. Season 5 is set for 21 action packed rounds, consisting of a record 63 regular season games, which sees each team hit out against one another three teams. Home fans can expect their team to go around six times at their own venue, but may make the trip to NRLM Oval, where they, along with the locals will get to catch a whopping 21 games of action throughout the season, which includes 7 unprecedented TRIPLE HEADERS!

With the increased professionalism of the competition, each team has hired a professional ground crew to prepare effectively pitches before each game, which could see home teams tinkering with the pitch conditions a little before each match to ensure the most advantage is sort for their side.

We will also witness live free-to-air games each round, the first time this has been available for the punters sitting back in their lounge room unable to make the game itself. This had previously only been done during origins and grand finals, so the viewers at home are the real winners this year as an influx of sponsorship dollars have made the plan viable.

Also introduced this season will be an inaugural player of the year award, gifted to the player with the most votes in a 3,2,1 style system at seasons end. There will be a couple of preseason favourites for this award, but as we've seen in the past, the highest run scorer and wicket taker have often been a dark horse who has "snuck under the radar."

The big question though will regard the action on the field. Can the Sticky Wickets go back-to-back? Can the Allstars go one better? Will the Crusaders finally live up to their potential? Have the Cyclones finally found the right formula to break through for a win? Can the Vipers erase last season’s disappointment to climb to the pointy end of the ladder? Can the Pumas & Ravens be competitive in their first season, or even surprise the onlookers and take the crown? All is set to be revealed in what is guaranteed to be an exciting new season.
