Crocodoc is a website that allows users to collaboratively review, mark up and comment on documents. Document types that are supported include PDF, Word and Powerpoint documents, PNG and JPEG images, and web pages (HTML). Web pages are reviewed by taking a snapshot of the current version of the page, and marking up that snapshot.

The free version allows saving PDF files with all annotations included - Crocodoc is using this to position themselves as a direct competitor to Adobe Acrobat. Crocodoc acknowledges that they do not have as many features as Acrobat, but asserts that their feature set is sufficient for most people.[1]

The Pro version uses encryption and optional password protection to keep documents secure.

Techcrunch remarked that Crocodoc is quick and easy to get started using and should be familiar to users of Adobe Acrobat or Preview on the Mac.[2] However, it noted that the free version, because it does not use user accounts, offers no way to recover a lost URL to a document.

Crocodoc was founded by the same people as WebNotes, an earlier product in the web annotation space.[3] It was funded by Y Combinator.[2]
