Cromwell House, located at 9 Amhearset Road,
Fallowfield in
Manchester,
England, was the site of six infamous
killings during the 1980’s. Set up as a
mental home
in 1984 by Simon and Lynn Craig, it became known throughout
Greater Manchester for the horrifying
mistreatment of its residents. According to news reports at the
time, patients were often beaten, starved and mentally abused. It
was not until 1986 that Mr and Mrs Craig were caught. Both were
sentenced to
life imprisonment in 1987 with Mr Craig
dying of tetanus in
1999.

Justice was brought to the six families of
the Cromwell House mental home today when Mr Simon Craig was
sentenced to life in prison. He was charged with six counts of
murder and thirteen counts of GBH. His wife Mrs Lynn Craig was also
sentenced to life for assisting the terrifying cruelty to the
mentally disabled people they claimed to take care
of.

A life long
Manchester United fanatic Craig would often release the frustration
of his team onto the patients. He was said to have thrown a
scolding pot of tea onto two women sleeping on a
sofa.<ref>The Independent,

The mental
home was closed in the spring of 1986 and was on sale for almost 7
years before being bought for a rumoured very “cheap” price. This
is believed to have been caused by the house gaining a reputation
as
haunted.
Many children in the area tell stories about the house and it has
become a local hotspot for
paranormal visitors, who creep around the grounds
at night looking for any strange activity.
