Band History:
CROWD DETERRENT is a hardcore band from the Northeast Ohio (Youngstown) area which started in 1997 in New Castle Pennsylvania by Samoan Rob. The band plays fast, angry, traditional hardcore with a strong DIY ethic. Rob was in small local bands as a teen around 1996, and one of those bands turned into CROWD DETERRENT. The band's name was a toungue-in-cheek referance regaurding the band's poor appearance and even worse sound, while the literal meaning of the word is dervived from professional/law enforcement crowd control tactics. A demo was made in 1997, self produced on cassette tape. It is very rare, often, file sharing services such as SOUL SEEK have a demo from 1999 (the "Ugly & Incoherant" demo) labled incorrectly as the 1997 demo.

The "original" line-up consisted of Samoan Rob (vocals), Dave Pieattack (drums), Brian Earl (bass), and Big John Tucker (aka Big Johanson) on guitar, and the original name of the band was "NEW CASTLE TRASH". The band played small shows in the Pittbsurgh/Youngstown/Cleveland region for a few years, sharing the stage w/ a diverse number of legendary (and not so legendary) punk and hardcore bands. Very soon the original line-up gave way to a revolving-door of different members, however, Samon Rob always was behind the writing of all material. Steve Assault, who was in other bands Crowd Deterrent often played with, joined the band sometime in the late 90's, sometimes playing drums (after Dave left) and sometimes doing vocals. Along w/ Rob, Steve was a steady member of the band and still is to this day. Other notable members are DJ Dutton on guitar (still playing today), Derek Ski (also in xREPRESENTx) on guitar, Zack Sunderman (bass, drums, recording, vocals... you name it), BJ Lisko (also of HELLVIS) and many, many more.

The band cemented itself as a violent band with their live show antics. Often, sets were very sloppy and short, and involved band members throwing baseball bats, unopened cans/bottles of beer, metal grabage cans, items wrapped in barbed wire, etc etc at the crowd. The crowd (usually filled with Crowd Deterrent's friends) would often destroy the venue and many of it's occupants. This activity was most prevelant at HOOLIGAN'S in Youngstown, which was a basement of a tattoo shop where Rob worked. The band is often categorized as a Staight Edge or even Hate Edge band. Some of the members are Stright Edge and some are not.

In 2000, the band went to NYC to record for their full length "BLOOD AND FAMILY" with Don Fury. With little time, and a limited budget, Steve, Rob, and Dave couldn't finish the songs and had to return to Youngstown to finish/record them. The album was released on Back ta Basics. The band was never happy with the end result of the recording and the record in general.

The band continued to release self-made demos and EPs through the early 2000's, as well as appearances on many compilations. Most of hich is poorly recorded at best. At some point Rob decided to end Crowd Deterrent and start a new project called "Die You Bastard!", a demo was recorded and soon after it was decided this would just be a new Crowd Deterrent demo insted of a new band. In 2007, the band released a spilt with CREEPOUT from Japan on Rob and Steve's HARD-ASS RECORDS, and the material was recorded by former drummer Dave Pieattack.

Crowd Deterrent continues to play shows in the Northest OH and Western PA region mainly.
