Canyon Siege is a
hostage rescue map in the
first-person shooter game
Counter-Strike by Justin "N0TH1NG" DeJong.
Introduced in the earliest release of
Counter-Strike, Beta 1.0 on June 19, 1999, cs_siege is the oldest map still in the official circulation.
cs_siege was the only map in the official circulation to incorporate the addition of drivable vehicles (an
APC for the counter-terrorists) following the official test map
de_jeepathon2000.
The version of cs_siege which included the APC was introduced with Beta 7.1 on September 26, 2000, however, drivable vehicles were not to last in
Counter-Strike.
Following the death of Justin Dejong in December 2000, his brother Euro*Brew and jOeSmOe updated the map with new textures and removed the APC, this version of the map was released with version 1.1 of
Counter-Strike on March 13, 2001.
The Map

Canyon Siege, as the name suggests, features a canyon.
The map has many wide-open spaces, and an underground tunnel/sewer system.
The hostages are kept in a well-defensible base inside of a mountain.
The Counter-Terrorists start in a remote area, from which they can either attack the Terrorist keep head on, or utilize the underground tunnel system.
The tunnels lead to a building that is located in the wide valley near the Terrorist base entrance.
This building has another door to the sewer system, which exits directly into the Terrorist base.
Criticism

distance.
The map is often criticized because it takes a long time to enter combat.
The map, though not very large in area, is quite long, and is thus less suitable to players who enjoy
rushing the other team while they are still buying their weapons.
Uniqueness
Because of the wide open areas, low gravity is often requested on this map.
Siege is one of the few maps with a working elevator, although many complain that the elevator takes too long to move between floors.
There are also many hidden pictures on the canyon wall.
The most popular of them being an orc face which appears on the ledges in the canyon going up by the CT spawn point.
