Cybernoir, sometimes also referred to as cybergoth fiction (not to be confused with the subcultural movement), is a subgenre of Science Fiction. Though a somewhat contentious term, it is most often used to describe a combination of the dystopian focus of cyberpunk with heavy elements of gothic fiction and Film Noir. Such works often contain some elements of detective fiction, for example the novel Chasm City by Alastair Reynolds, or Forests of the Night by S Andrew Swann. This is one of the main features distinguishing works of such genre from cyberpunk, another being the heavy use such novels make of gothic symbolism, dreams etc. as well as more gothic settings. Authors arguably working in this style include Alastair Reynolds, Micheal Marshall Smith and Peter F. Hamilton

Cybernoir is a growing genre in Anime, where elements of pure Fantasy/Horror often seep in: Hellsing, X/1999 and Witch Hunter Robin are all arguably proponents of this genre to some extent.

The pen and paper RPG games Vampire the Masquerade and D20 Modern/Urbana Arcana also contain elements of this genre.
