From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cynthia Arlene Sommer, 35, is an American former prisoner who was convicted on January 30, 2007 of the murder of her husband[1]. Sommer was first accused of poisoning her Marine husband, Sgt. Todd Sommer, with arsenic in order to cash in on his $250,000 serviceman's group life insurance policy. He collapsed February 18, 2002, in the couple’s bedroom at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar,[2] and later died at a hospital. Sommer allegedly utilized a portion of the money to buy breast implants and go on shopping sprees not long after her husband's death.[3]

Release

On April 17, 2008, Sommer was released. New lab tests proved there was no trace of arsenic in her husband's system at the time of his death.[4] The day after her release, Sommer was a guest on Larry King Live discussing her feelings about being freed. She was also a guest on the show in 2007 while she was still a prisoner, talking via satellite link.[5]

On January 22, 2009 Sommer was profiled on the Oxygen Network series Snapped which profiles female criminals and murderers.

On May 4, 2009, Sommer will be in court requesting that her case be dismissed with prejudice.[6]
