D1 Sports Training & Therapy began in 2003 and is based in
Franklin, TN. CEO Will Bartholomew, a former NFL and Division I
football player, recruited former teammates and other athletes to
launch a sports-related business network in the industry of
athletic training. The idea of D1, which means Division I Athlete,
came from Bartholomew's desire to offer the same sport specific
training to athletes that he experienced at the University of
Tennessee.
Training programs at D1 are aimed to increase speed,
strength and agility while therapy and rehabilitation services are
offered through physical therapists on site. D1 clients range from
elite-level athletes, to youth athletes, to business professionals
and moms.
As of 2007, there are six training centers located in
the United States. Each facility is majority-owned by the D1
corporate office led by Bartholomew with local athletes and
celebrities as minority co-owners. D1 Chattanooga, Knoxville and
Nashville are co-owned by Peyton Manning. D1 Huntsville is co-owned
by Philip Rivers and Condredge Holloway. D1 Memphis is co-owned by
Shane Battier. D1 Greenville is co-owned by James Trapp, Chester
McGlockton, Dexter Davis, Ed McDaniel and Ingle Martin. There are
plans for other D1 facilities to open in 2008 and 2009 across the
US.
Other athletes who have worked out at D1 outside of Combine
Training include Travis Henry, Brandon Jones, Albert Haynesworth,
Amobi Okoye, Trenton Hassell, Scott Stallings, David Thornton,
Chris Hope, Tony Brown, Vincent Fuller, Jason Arnott, JP Dumont,
Darcy Hordichuk, Monica Abbott, Thaddeus Young, RA Dickey, Dan
Uggla, The Biggest Loser's David Griffin and others.
