ARTIST STATEMENT: D_CK is on the Tip of Everybody’s Tongue
This is the story and statement of D_CK.
The artist name “D_CK” stems from the first letter of the 3 college-aged artists that are involved: Dylan, Chandler, and Kyle.
What started out as a joke turned into an experiment, and the experiment turned into a solid vision.
Our dream became revolutionary.
We developed an artistic style that no one has yet attempted, and we have perfected it.
Every single piece of art that we create is made with wax and a selection of other ingredients.
We don’t just create art for beauty.
We create what we believe.
We speak what our generation sees and interprets.
We mix views on life, death, sex, our culture & pop culture, and insert our own hip- hop/alternative rock style in it.
Our art isn’t abstract, and our art isn’t conventional.
Our art is D_CK.
We are visionaries.
We believe this is the first new art of the 21st Century.
You can view our “waxings” as simple, or you can take them for what they are.
The meaning behind D_CK’s art is deep.
We feel this is the way art should be.
Much art today is rendered by an individual and thus is limited to the expression of “the self”.
The exterior world doesn’t necessarily feel what that person does.
There are three of us.
We bounce ideas and feelings and create all of our waxings together.
D_CK is the first “group artist” to capture these interpretations through communal eyes and put them back out into the world.
The music industry changed forever with the internet-era.
Few artists have found ways to attain solidity under the high turn-over consumerism of the iPod generation; many manifest as readily digested one-hit wonder downloads.
Everything started sounding and looking the same.
Music lost its soul.
Hip-hop died.
This is happening to all forms of art.
D_CK is different.
There is something about D_CK that catches people’s eyes and emotions, and it’s not just the meaning behind the art.
D_CK invented waxing, and the outcome is explosive.
When you see D_CK’s art, it speaks. This is new art.
This is D_CK.
