Although not yet officialy recognised, "Da GV" or the Garnet
Vicinity/Vernacular is an area radiating outwards from a point
somewhere on the Wavertree/Old Swan border in the inner city area
of the small city of Liverpool, England. Its disputed territory
extends as far as Tuebrook. The area is bisected by Rathbone Road
a north/west arterial route in and out of the main Old Swan
shopping and business district. Many people question the existence
of the GV but it is becoming growingly recognised and there are
even rumours that there will soon be a football team representing
the area with the name "The Garnet Street Vipers". A few optimistic
back room supremos have even suggested that they will win the UEFA
Champions League by 2020.
History
The GV came into
existence in 2003, not much has happened since.
16th July 2004 -
Skateboard park officially closed, due to puddles of inshiftable
water/mud, lack of cleanliness and all round danger-isity.
18th
November 2005 - Boundaries of Da GV get confused yet again as the
Liverpool City Council erected signs in its locale which read "Old
Swan" and "Wavertree". The future looks bleak for Da
GV.
Housing
Housing in Da GV consists mainly of low
quality terraced council houses built in the inter war
years.
Events and Activities
The L13 10K established
itself last year as a top quality, city based road running event
with more than 5,000 runners taking part. The combined half
marathon, 10K road race and fun run attracted entries from across
the U.K. and a couple of surprising locations - Omsk in Russia and
HMS Edinburgh.
Main Areas of Interest
The Ratty - A once
beautiful urban park area, with countless skating facilities and a
nice concrete pitch. Situated on Edge Lane by Edge Lane retail
park, The Ratty is now empty of all skating facilities due to their
tendency to kill people and is a few goalposts short of a football
pitch. All this aside, the park remains a popular kick about
area.
Garnet Street - Once a flourishing street, now empty due to
bombings during the wars. The nearby bomb shelter once a safe haven
for humans is a place where footballs are lost and impossible to
get back due to the lack of access.
Transport
Trains
Wavertree Technology Park train station. Buses The buses 60, 62,
68, 92 and 168 frequently pass through Da GV and stops can be found
on Mill Lane for the buses 62, 68, 92 and 168. The 60 passes
straight down Rathbone Road and onto St.Oswalds Street. The whole
transport services are friendly and reliable.
